It is native to Europe and Asia, but it is known throughout much of the warm temperate world as an introduced species. It is an annual grass producing an inflorescence with two or more narrow branches lined with tiny spikelets.

Found growing as a weed grass in lawns, roadsides, and gardens.

Edible Notes: It is reported that the seeds may be edible and ground into flour but not much information is available. There is a report that the leaves might be cyanogenic. Not recommended at this time.
